Oregon Health & Science University and the House Officers Union bargaining teams are very pleased to announce that they reached a tentative agreement on a new contract during their Jan. 25 bargaining session.

HOU members will be asked to vote to ratify the new contract. Together, the teams came to what they believe is a historic collective bargaining agreement for the house officers. If ratified, the contract will become effective March 11, 2024.

Highlights of this historic agreement include:

  • $1,795 paid to current house officers two full pay periods after ratification.
  • 15.25% of wage increases: 6.5% in academic years 2024-2025, 4.5% in 2025-2026, 4.25% in 2026-2027.
  • Housing bonus: $3,500 in 2024, and wage-tied increases for years 2025 and 2026.
  • Education stipend: $1,000 annual stipend.
  • Meal money: A tiered meal money plan of $25 to $375 per month, based on number of scheduled 12-hour shifts.
  • Pay bonuses for chief and bilingual residents.
  • Insurance: Domestic partners and children up to 26 years old are secured.
  • Improved leave: Professional, vacation, sick, and bereavement.
  • Holidays: Comprehensive plan to ensure fair distribution of scheduled holidays and mechanisms to receive an alternative day off if house officers work on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
  • Representation on the Parking and Transportation committee.

OHSU thanks both bargaining teams for their time spent reaching this agreement. OHSU appreciates their work, and acknowledges this huge accomplishment and support for valued HOU members.
