
Oregon Health & Science University and the House Officers Union bargaining teams are very pleased to announce that they reached a tentative agreement on a new contract during their Jan. 25 bargaining session.
HOU members will be asked to vote to ratify the new contract. Together, the teams came to what they believe is a historic collective bargaining agreement for the house officers. If ratified, the contract will become effective March 11, 2024.
Highlights of this historic agreement include:
- $1,795 paid to current house officers two full pay periods after ratification.
- 15.25% of wage increases: 6.5% in academic years 2024-2025, 4.5% in 2025-2026, 4.25% in 2026-2027.
- Housing bonus: $3,500 in 2024, and wage-tied increases for years 2025 and 2026.
- Education stipend: $1,000 annual stipend.
- Meal money: A tiered meal money plan of $25 to $375 per month, based on number of scheduled 12-hour shifts.
- Pay bonuses for chief and bilingual residents.
- Insurance: Domestic partners and children up to 26 years old are secured.
- Improved leave: Professional, vacation, sick, and bereavement.
- Holidays: Comprehensive plan to ensure fair distribution of scheduled holidays and mechanisms to receive an alternative day off if house officers work on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
- Representation on the Parking and Transportation committee.
