KGW-TV reports that OHSU is the first hospital in Oregon to offer treatment for certain types of prostate cancer using a robotic-assisted high-intensity focused ultrasound device. Sudhir Isharwal, M.D., says, “There are no cuts. There are no incisions to heal from. So patients feel that they did not have any major surgery, but they are able to resume their life pretty quickly.”

Mark Slifka, Ph.D., is interviewed by OPB-Radio about a review suggesting it’s not necessary for adults to get a routine vaccination booster for tetanus and diphtheria as long as childhood vaccination rates remain strong. He says, “By vaccinating the kids and maintaining high vaccination coverage, we can reduce the number of vaccines later on. So, in many ways, it’s a win-win.”
