Dr. Graven is director of the OHSU Office of Advanced Analytics, where early in the COVID-19 pandemic he began forecasting the impact of demand for hospital care at OHSU, and then expanded the forecast to include hospitals statewide. He has subsequently updated his forecast weekly.
He teaches health economics; advises students at the OHSU/Portland State University School of Public Health; and applies his training as a health economist working in advanced analytics and data science for OHSU Health. His group analyzes electronic health data linked to claims, patient satisfaction and external benchmark data to aid in population health and value-based care. His research interests include issues of health insurance coverage, behavioral health integration, health care workforce, cost effectiveness analysis and program evaluation.
