OHSU neurosurgeons this summer became the first in the region to implant small devices to stimulate the vagus nerve, in one case to improve symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and in the other case to help patients rehabilitate function in their arms and hands following strokes. The device on the left is used in rehabilitation following stroke, while the device on the right is used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. (OHSU)

(OHSU)
