Bertassoni lab: Creating artificial blood vessels
Luiz Bertassoni, D.D.S., Ph.D., founding director of the Knight Cancer Precision Biofabrication Hub and professor in the OHSU Division of Oncological Sciences, has helped develop a method to engineer artificial blood vessels that can support tooth regeneration. The approach could transform future root canal treatments by restoring living tissue instead of removing it. (OHSU)
NIH funding for chip model of cancer and more
Luiz Bertassoni, D.D.S., Ph.D., is the principal investigator on a $3.5 million NIH grant to study head and neck cancer, specifically oral squamous cell carcinoma. Here, a device called "tooth-on-a-chip" is allowing researchers from Bertassoni's lab to observe how teeth interact with reconstruction materials and bacteria. (OHSU)
