OHSU reaffirms commitment to safe, welcoming environment for all

OHSU is a community of healers dedicated to saving lives and ensuring the well-being of all who are entrusted to our care. Last week’s unconscionable acts of violence, coupled with news of federal proposals that discriminate against immigrants and the transgender community, compel us to unequivocally reaffirm OHSU’s commitment to an environment that is inclusive and safe for all.

Religious intolerance and hatred, violence, racism, bigotry and discrimination of any kind contradict everything that OHSU stands for. Equity and inclusion are highly valued here. All are welcome here. This means OHSU is committed to creating a safe and affirming place for people with different religions, ethnic or racial backgrounds, abilities, socioeconomic backgrounds, LGBTQ and gender nonconforming communities, immigrants, Dreamers and other characteristics.

These words have been spoken before and cannot be overstated. But words are not enough. We are fortunate to have many members at OHSU who demonstrate integrity, compassion and leadership every day by providing the best possible health care, education, research and service for everyone, in a safe and inclusive environment.

Danny Jacobs, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.S., OHSU President
