Dear OHSU Members,
It is my pleasure to announce that Marie Chisholm-Burns, Pharm.D., Ph.D., M.P.H., M.B.A., FCCP, FASHP, FAST, has been appointed OHSU’s next executive vice president and provost effective July 1, 2022. Dr. Chisholm-Burns is an accomplished scholar with deep strategic leadership experience. I am confident that her commitment to achieving academic excellence, promoting transformational learning, and building diverse and equitable environments will help further our university’s pursuit of excellence in all missions.
Dr. Chisholm-Burns comes to us from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center where she has served as dean of the College of Pharmacy for 10 years. She currently has dual appointments as a distinguished professor with tenure in the Colleges of Pharmacy and Medicine. She is also a member of the American Society of Transplantation Board of Directors, and founder and director of the Medication Access Program, a statewide outreach organization responsible for increasing medication accessibility for solid-organ transplant recipients. Her contributions as a leader, educator and researcher have been recognized with numerous awards from national professional organizations, including the National Academies of Practice.
Under her leadership, the UTHSC College of Pharmacy was ranked No. 20 by U.S. News & World Report and No. 14 in NIH funding among colleges of pharmacy. With Dr. Chisholm-Burns at the helm, the college has also implemented scholarships for all students, launched a new campus and multiple dual degree and certificate programs, and consistently achieved outstanding graduation and licensure board examination pass rates. Additionally, she has made significant contributions – both professionally and personally – to diversity and inclusion efforts. Her work has led to the UTHSC College of Pharmacy now having one of the largest minority student populations among colleges of pharmacy nationwide.
Before joining the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, she served as head of the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science at the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy. She received a Ph.D. from the University of South Dakota, an M.B.A. from the University of Memphis, an M.P.H. from Emory University, as well as a Pharm.D. from the University of Georgia. Her CV fully detailing her experience and credentials can be found here.
Dr. Chisholm-Burns is an inspiring leader, mentor and community member who seeks to build bridges to support and enhance health, education and research. Her passion and enthusiasm for leading innovative health science learning environments and championing diversity, equity and inclusion efforts align perfectly with our OHSU 2025 strategic plan, and I am excited to have her join our community.
Dr. Chisholm-Burns asked me to share this message with you: “It is my great honor and privilege to be joining the OHSU family as your new executive vice president and provost. I look forward to working with each of you to continue building OHSU’s success as a premier academic, research and health care institution.”
Please help me in welcoming Dr. Chisholm-Burns and thanking the search committee for their outstanding work in bringing this highly competitive search to a successful conclusion. I would also like to thank Dr. David Robinson for serving as interim provost during this transition period.
