OHSU-GRU bargaining update: Teams to move to mediation

Sun rising over a wooded valley with trees in the foreground and hills in the background.

Oregon Health & Science University and Graduate Researchers United did not bargain this week. Following negotiations on Tuesday, June 20, members of the OHSU and GRU bargaining teams agreed to request a state-appointed mediator to support ongoing negotiations.

Mediation is a common part of the process in negotiations, both at OHSU and with other employers. In mediation, the parties voluntarily work with the mediator to share interests, perspectives and positions, and pose questions to determine how to move forward on remaining issues. The mediator does not take a position or make decisions on issues but acts as a facilitator to keep the process moving forward.

It is likely that a mediator will not be available for several weeks, and the parties agreed to wait until a mediator is available to continue negotiations.
